Zero Waste Eco Festival

Save the Children is planning to organize Pakistan’s first ever “Zero Waste Eco Festival” to raise awareness amongst the youth about environment related issues. The festival is being organized with the vision to eliminate any waste produced before, during and after the event. The festival seeks create an immersive experience where children and the youth can come together in nature and partake in sustainable activities and practices that can reduce their ecological footprints. The event will create a marketplace of sustainable products, designs, and ideas, to engage children and the youth in new forms of action and activism that can generate effective responses to ecological challenges.

The festival will bring together companies working on sustainable technology; organic and local farmers working with sustainable practices; and members from the civil society and academia that can stimulate dialogue and debate about the environment. Children will be able to enjoy live music, interactive workshops, climate charged discussions, and participate in activities such as waste management, energy production, and environment themed competitions.

The Zero Waste Eco Festival will be held on Saturday, May 14th from 4:00 pm - 9:00pm in F-9 Park.

 

Environment Related Competitions

 

If you have a creative mind, and are concerned about climate change, these competitions are for you!  

Your entry should express your ideas about the solutions the world needs in relation to one (or more) of the following themes, which are the topics the Zero Waste Eco Festival revolves around.

Green Art Competition

1)    ART - Create a piece of art – using any medium like crayons, water colors, oil paints, acrylics, or recycled material/trash, etc. – that describes the actions that governments, businesses or people need to take in response to the climate crisis.

2)    POETRY – Write a poem – in English or Urdu – about the earth, the environment, or climate change

3)    PHOTOGRAPHY – Submit a photo that you think portrays an important or moving climate change or environment related issue or idea

 

-        This competition has two age categories: up to 12-years old and 13 to 18-years old.

Sustainable Design Competition

1)    ENGINEERING - Create a project using technology to solve a critical environment issue associated to any climate change or environment related issue. The projects could work towards achieving SDG 6: Clean water and sanitation; SDG 7: Affordable and clean energy; or SDG 13: Climate action in general

2)    ARCHITECTURE – Showcase a design idea or model (2D/3D) using alternative / green building technologies, designs, and ideas that are sustainable and environmentally friendly

3)    INNOVATION – An innovative pitch or idea that can help solve a critical climate related issue through a business or organization of individuals. This can be submitted in the form a concept note (no longer than 2 pages) or a presentation (no more than 6 slides)
